A Family Tradition
During the early 20th Century, especially during the Great Depression, certain ethnic and/or religious groups had a custom that the family and friends of the Bride & Groom each made their favorite cookies to be served at the wedding reception on behalf of the couple. My Nonni always referred to this as The Cookie Table.​​​​
This tradition has been passed on in our family, first from my immigrant great-grandparents, then my first generation Italian-American grandparents, next to my mother and now to me. Besides weddings, we always have a cookie table at family events like Christmas Dinner, Birthdays, 4th of July, Baby Showers, Anniversaries and Graduations, because a party isn't a party without The Cookie Table!
